How we met
Brittany and Ryan met at their favorite local watering hole, Dockside, through a few friends in February of 2010. Our friends obviously knew better than we did that we were right for one another. Shortly after meeting, Ryan asked Brittany out to dinner to the Brasserie du Soleil and the rest is history!
The Proposal
Let's just start by saying Brittany is the master of messing up surprises because she is a total type A planner! They have a long-standing tradition of exchanging Christmas presents and enjoying a nice dinner the night before heading home to spend time with family for the holidays. On December 22nd, 2014, Brittany and Ryan planned their annual exchange. First, they opened presents at home, and then Brittany mentioned the fact that she was just going to go "freshen up" before dinner. Ryan insisted that she take a shower (little did she know this was because the ring was hidden in the gun safe and the only way for him to get it out would be for her to be in a loud shower).
Ryan decided to take Brittany to the Brasserie for dinner, which has been one of the couple's favorite spots since that first date. When they walked in, the restaurant was rather crowded but Ryan insisted they grab a drink at the bar before getting a table. Hard-headed-Brittany decided to "just put their name in" and then they would have a drink. Guess what?! They were seated right away with no wait. Ryan was frantically trying to come up with another plan in his head on where to propose since his first plan was to do it by the bar!
While they were at dinner, Brittany told the priceless story of this hilarious YouTube video where the guy kept faking out a girl who thought she was getting proposed to (you can watch the video here). After Ryan paid for dinner, the waitress brought the check back for him to sign but his card had mysteriously gone missing while she was running it. As if Ryan were not nervous enough, the entire wait staff had flashlights out looking for his card. It turns out the card had flung out of the sleeve and on to the raw bar!
In the mean time, Brittany was texting some of their best friends and making plans to meet up for a drink, while Ryan had something else in mind. Once Brittany absolutely insisted on going to the same bar as our friends, he had to think of a plan C for how to propose! We started driving down the beach, where Ryan claimed he wanted to look at Christmas lights. There were absolutely no Christmas lights since it's very much a resort town. So after all of this Ryan ends up parking at a spot right on the Intracoastal Waterway and telling Brittany to walk down to the water for a minute because "This is not a pump fake!" Ryan got down on one knee and said the sweetest words! And of course Brittany said yes!
